Stop Logs and Their Many Uses

Whipps, Inc.’s 500 Series Stop Log Gates represent the perfect combination of innovation, reliability, and customization in water control. We understand that every water management project has unique challenges, which is why we offer fully customizable stop log solutions designed to meet specific site requirements. Engineered for precision, the 500 Series helps maintain desired water levels and provides critical protection during flood events or emergency maintenance. Let’s take a closer look at the different types of stop logs included in our 500 Series line of equipment.

The Origin of Stop Logs

Stop logs have long been used in water control systems, traditionally constructed from timber and manually placed to manage flow. Today, Whipps, Inc. has advanced that concept using high-performance materials like aluminum and stainless steel. Manufacturing stop logs with these materials offer lower leakage rates, increased strength, and long-lasting durability than the old-fashion wooden stop logs. When properly installed, these logs provide a reliable seal that helps prevent flooding and maintain safe working environments. The 500 Series continues this legacy with modern engineering built to withstand demanding conditions.

Aluminum Stop Logs

Whipps, Inc.’s aluminum stop logs include the 509, 510, and 511 models. They are lightweight yet durable, designed for low head conditions and manual handling. Each log features UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight) seals to ensure effective flow blockage with minimal leakage. These systems are ideal for manual installation and removal, and can be tailored to navigate around corners or span wide openings. Can be paired with a lifter to ensure easy and efficient installation or removal.

Stainless Steel Stop Logs

For applications requiring more durability without sacrificing corrosion resistance, Whipps offers stainless steel stop logs. The model 529 stop logs are ideal for long-term use in submerged or chemically harsh environments. Their robust construction offers exceptional performance in challenging conditions and is best paired with a lifter for ease of installation and removal. Our stop log lifters, available in aluminum or stainless steel, simplify operation in the field. Equipped with UHMW guide bars and stainless steel fasteners, the lifters use a simple lanyard system for quick latching and unlatching.

Bulkhead Gates

Our Model 519 and Model 529 Bulkhead Gates are engineered to withstand significant water pressure while covering large openings. The Model 519 is constructed from extruded aluminum (Alloy 6061-T6) and the Model 529 is made from Type 304 or 316 stainless steel. They include resilient lip-type seals along the sides and bottom for a watertight seal.
