Fabricated Stainless Steel Slide Gates
The 900 Series Stainless Steel Gates from Whipps, Inc. are custom fabricated for precise water control, isolation, and water-level management in municipal, industrial, wastewater, flood control, and environmental applications. Constructed from corrosion-resistant stainless steel, the series provides long-term structural strength and dependable operation for projects ranging from standard-duty installations to large openings and high-head applications.
The Formula
A defining feature of the 900 Series is its ability to match the structural design of the gate to the required opening width and water head. Whipps categorizes the series using a Width × Head formula:
- 80 or less → 920 Series – Standard-Duty
- Over 80 through 120 → 930 Series – Medium-Duty
- Over 120 → 950 Series – Heavy-Duty
This allows the gate structure to be selected around the actual hydraulic loading of the application rather than relying on a single design for every installation.
The 900 Series includes both slide gates and sluice gates. Standard slide gate configurations, such as the 923, do not incorporate a top seal, allowing water to overflow the slide when the water elevation rises above it. Sluice gate configurations, such as the 924 and 925, add a top seal, creating four-sided sealing for applications where flow through the opening must be isolated without intentional overflow. For applications where the operator cannot be supported directly by the gate frame, non-self-contained sluice gates provide additional installation flexibility by locating the operator on a separate pedestal.
Model 921 – Embedded Stainless Steel Gate
The Whipps Model 921 is a stainless steel gate designed for full or partial embedment into concrete. Its embedded configuration provides secure integration with the surrounding structure, while corrosion-resistant stainless steel supports long-term service without requiring protective paint coatings. Its open-top design permits controlled overflow.
Model 923 – Stainless Steel Slide Gate
The Whipps Model 923 is a versatile stainless steel slide gate without a top seal, allowing controlled overflow when water rises above the slide. Its corrosion-resistant construction, UHMW sealing components, and custom fabrication provide dependable flow control across municipal, industrial, and environmental applications.
Model 923-C – Channel-Mounted Stainless Steel Slide Gate
The Whipps Model 923-C adapts the 923 design for channel-mounted applications. Designed for installations where channel mounting is required, it combines stainless steel construction with dependable sealing and an open-top slide configuration for controlled water flow.
Model 923-D – Downward-Opening Stainless Steel Weir Gate
The Whipps Model 923-D is a downward-opening weir gate designed for precise water-elevation control. Lowering the stainless steel slide allows controlled flow over its upper edge, making the configuration useful for treatment processes and other applications requiring water-level regulation or reduced overhead gate travel.
Model 923-I – Interconnected-Stem Stainless Steel Slide Gate
The Whipps Model 923-I incorporates dual stems and interconnected operators linked by a precision drive shaft. The synchronized system distributes operating force across the gate, providing balanced movement and additional stability for wider gates and applications with increased operating loads.
Model 923-D-I – Downward-Opening Interconnected Weir Gate
The Whipps Model 923-D-I combines downward-opening water-level control with dual interconnected stems. Its synchronized operating arrangement provides balanced movement across the stainless steel slide while allowing operators to precisely regulate water elevation. An example of combining customizations.
Model 924 – Stainless Steel Sluice Gate
The Whipps Model 924 adds a top seal to the standard slide-gate design, preventing overflow through the gate opening and providing four-sided sealing. Designed for applications requiring complete opening isolation, the 924 sluice gate can be configured for wall-thimble or flanged-pipe mounting.
Model 925 – Non-Self-Contained Stainless Steel Sluice Gate
The Whipps Model 925 is a four-sided-sealing, non-self-contained stainless steel sluice gate. Rather than supporting the operator directly on the gate frame, the operator is installed on a separate pedestal, providing additional flexibility for tunnels, pipelines, and structures with unique space or alignment requirements.
Model 930 – Medium-Duty Stainless Steel Gate
The Whipps Model 930 is designed for medium-duty applications with a Width × Head value greater than 80 and up to 120. Its stainless steel construction, precision-engineered components, and UHMW seals provide dependable performance for installations requiring greater structural capacity than the standard-duty 920 Series.
Model 950 – Heavy-Duty Stainless Steel Gate
The Whipps Model 950 is designed for heavy-duty applications where Width × Head exceeds 120. Engineered for larger openings and higher hydraulic loads, its reinforced stainless steel construction and UHMW sealing components provide the additional structural capacity required for demanding water control applications.
