Aluminum has proven to be a durable material for most water and wastewater applications. Our aluminum gates feature UV-stabilized UHMW seat/seals that maintain their shape and integrity in demanding environments. Whipps, Inc. guarantees superior performance with leakage rates not exceeding 0.10 gpm/ft of seal perimeter under both seating and unseating head conditions, surpassing the specifications outlined in AWWA C-501 for Cast Iron Sluice Gates and AWWA C-560 for Cast Iron Slide Gates, even in high head service scenarios. Fabricated aluminum gates usually offer a cost advantage over cast iron, stainless steel, and fiberglass gates due to their less expensive manufacturing process. The manufacturing process of aluminum gates is notably quick, particularly because Whipps, Inc. keeps most materials in stock, ensuring prompt delivery. Aluminum gates require low maintenance, needing no periodic painting and requiring less operator attention compared to cast iron or stainless steel gates.
