Since 1977, Whipps, Inc. has been committed to designing and manufacturing custom-fabricated water control equipment built to perform in the toughest applications. What began as a small family business in central Massachusetts has grown into one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of sluice gates, slide gates, stop logs, and other critical flow control solutions.
That growth has never been about expansion for expansion’s sake. It has been driven by the trust of our customers, the dedication of our employees, and the blessings that have allowed us to continue investing in our people, our facilities, and our future. As we look back over the last several years, we are incredibly grateful for how far we have come.
Growing with Purpose
The Pursuit of More Factory Workspace
Whipps, Inc. has experienced steady growth as demand for high-quality, American-made water control equipment continues to increase. To support this growth, we have made significant investments in our facilities and infrastructure. In the summer of 2024, construction was completed on a major expansion to our manufacturing headquarters. This new building added an incredible amount of workspace and includes six heavy-duty 10-ton cranes along with a reinforced concrete foundation. These cranes are designed to support large-scale fabrication and material handling operations. The added capacity allows our manufacturing team to work more efficiently while accommodating larger and more complex projects.

The Machine Shop: Building Precision In-House
Before the new factory expansion was completed, Whipps purchased the building next door and converted it into a dedicated machine shop. This move allowed us to bring even more critical machining operations under our direct control. Today, our skilled machinists produce threaded stems, precision components, and operator parts that are essential to the performance of our gates and actuators. By machining key components in-house, we maintain tighter quality control, reduce lead times, and ensure that every part meets our exacting standards.

Expanding Our Office and Welcoming New Partners
In the fall of 2025, we completed an addition to our main office building to provide additional workspace and support future opportunities. This expansion also created a home for Montalbano Computer Services, an IT company that now operates from our headquarters. By welcoming Montalbano Computer Services, we strengthened our own technology capabilities while supporting a small business. It is an example of how growth can create opportunities not just for our company, but for our community as well as more position in different careers become available.

Innovation starts with strong engineering, and as Whipps, Inc. continues to grow, so does our engineering team. To support this expansion, we are currently constructing an addition to our engineering building that will provide much-needed office space for additional engineers, designers, and project managers. This investment reflects the increasing demand for custom-engineered water control solutions and our commitment to providing the technical expertise required to meet each project’s unique needs. By expanding our engineering facilities, we are strengthening our ability to develop detailed designs, improve project coordination, and deliver innovative solutions with the responsiveness and precision our customers expect.

Even with these recent additions, we are continuing to prepare for the future. Whipps is currently developing the lot adjacent to our facility for additional expansion and new business ventures. While plans continue to evolve, this investment reflects our commitment to long-term growth and our confidence in the opportunities ahead. Each improvement we make is intended to support our employees, better serve our customers, and create a stronger foundation for future generations. The water control industry has a lot to look forward to from Whipps, Inc.
